Baglung flood update: 14 killed, 39 reported missing

POKHARA: At least 14 people have lost their lives while 39 others are reported missing after a flash flood swept away settlements in Dhorpatan Municipality-9 of Baglung district on Wednesday night.

Police have ascertained the identities of two deceased victims while 39 others are still missing since the incident, DPO informed.

Among the deceased, two persons were identified as 26-year-old Kesh Maya BK of Bhatechaur in Dhorpatan-9 and Kar Bahadur BK of the same ward, said Provincial Police Office Information Office, DSP Rajendra Babu Regmi.

The flood not only destroyed 31 houses but also swept away a pick-up jeep (GA 1 Jha 4125), suspension bridge, three micro hydropower projects  and damaged embankment constructed along ward number 6,7,9 and 9 in the municipality.

The flood also caused damages in places including Lakuribot, Sukurdung, Dunepadhera, Ghattbote and Bhusande among others in the area.

One out of four persons who were rescued alive is in normal condition and undergoing treatment at the local Bobang health post, informed Assistant Chief District Officer Dhirendra Raj Panta.

He further said a chopper is kept in standby position and preparations are underway to airlift the seriously injured person to Pokhara for further treatment.
