Bajura school pays perks to teachers despite years-long absence

BAJURA: It has been revealed that Gyanodaya Secondary School in Rajatola of Bajura district paid thousands of rupees to two persons, supposedly former teachers.

The School Management Committee (SMC) has claimed that it had issued appointment letters to them around 15 years ago and they were due to receive their remuneration.

However, no record has been found regarding their attendance and appointment at the school.

The duo – Devraj Padhya and Bijaya Ram Padhya – have claimed they have the appointment letters.

The school’s accountant Devraj Padhya said that they did not have any choice other than paying the teachers with the amount as the SMC had been pressurising them for the same.

It has been learned that the SMC Chairman Tula Padhya had forced the SMC to take such decision some months ago.

Principal of the school, Krishna Nath, said that he had protested the decision, but he could not do anything in front of the strength of other SMC members including guardians' representatives.

Whereas Devraj received the salary for five years (Rs 246,000 including some in-kind benefits) Bijaya Ram was paid Rs 112,000 for three years.

The school administration now has been claiming that it lost the records in a flood.

Nayab Subba Mattrika Neupane of the District Education Office said that the school’s decision to provide them with such a huge amount without any reliable proof or record was wrong.
