Ban alcohol campaign

KHOTANG: Women from Chyasmitar VDC, Khotang, have launched a campaign to establish their village as an alcohol-free zone. With growing cases of violence due to alcohol consumption, women of Chyasmitar came up with the campaign to minimise violence. A nine-member committee under the coordination of Sarita Rai was formed with the initiative of local Srijanatmak Ekata Yuba Group. They have decided to jointly work against alcohol, launch various awareness  programmes and counsel alcohol consumers. “The committee has been empowered to take physical action against anybody found violating the rules,” said Rash Kumar Rai, chairman of the group. The committee said they had launched the campaign as local folks faced various hurdles and social harmony was disturbed.
