Bandh affects life in districts

Dialogue between MJF, parties ends inconclusively

Itahari, June 16:

Talks between representatives of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF), the local administration, district leaders of the eight political parties and members of civil society in Duhabi of Sunsari district ended inconclusively today. The talks were held to allow traffic to resume on the Koshi Highway that has remained obstructed for the past three days due to the bandh in Morang and Sunsari districts.

“The MJF remained adamant and the talks ended without any decision,” said inspector at the Duhabi area police office (APO) Kuldeep Chand.

The MJF has called the two-district bandh to press for the release of two MJF cadres, who were arrested by the police on the charge of pelting stones at a vehicle ferrying CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari some days ago.

Life in both the districts was partially affected today due to the bandh. Duhabi, Sonapur, Khanar and Inaruwa of the Sunsari district remained totally shut. However, the bandh did not affect life in Itahari and Dharan. In Biratnagar, vehicles stayed off the road while the bazaar was open.
