Bandh disrupts life in several districts
Chitwan, June 12:
Normal life was affected due to a day-bandh called by the Nepal Basobas Basti Samrakshan Samaj (NBBSS), an organisation of the land-less squatters, here today.
The NBBSS called the bandh to press for their demands including implementation of revolutionary land reform system, representation of squatters in the constituent assembly and taking action against land brokers and mafias.
No vehicle plied in long as well as short routes from Narayangarh.
Though some of the groceries and tea-shops were opened in the morning, they remained closed following pressure from the agitators in the daytime.
Only few schools and other educational institutions were opened. Dozens of vehicles going to different destinations via Narayangarh were stranded as the agitators stopped them in Narayangarh bazaar.
A report from Biratnagar said markets and educational institutions were closed and no vehicle plied in the streets due to the bandh.
A report from Dhankuta said industries and markets were closed. Transport services, educational institutions, industries and shops were closed due to the bandh in Rupandehi today. The agitators staged rally at Media Chowk in Butwal and disrupted traffic by burning tyres. A report from Jhapa said normal life in Damak, Birtamod, Bhadrapur and Kakarvitta was affected as no vehicle plied in the streets and most of the educational institutions were closed; however, work at industries was not disrupted by the bandh.
