BANKE: There is not even a single secondary school for Narainapur, Laxmanpur, Katkuiya and Kalaphant VDCs in the district. Rastrya Lower Secondary School in Laxmanpur VDC is the only lower secondary school.

Local teacher Parasnath Pandey said that many are deprived of education in the area. He added,'' many children in their school-age go to work elsewhere as there is no secondary school in the area.''

“The area is backward in every respect,'' he said.

Many children also dropout after completing their primary education as there is no secondary school to further their education.

Former chairman of Kalaphanta VDC, Surya Kumar Mourya, said that the authority concerned became apathetic towards the plight of the children.

He lamented,'' We urged the CDO and the party leaders of the district for the establishment of a secondary school in the area but all of them turned their deaf ears.'' He added, ''The children are compelled to work as child labourers quitting their study as there is no secondary school to continue their study.''

Local resident Kalaphanta Islam Kha said that the youths were compelled to look for foreign employment as there were no schools further their education. He said that many teenagers were leaving for India in search of employment.

Meanwhile, Mana Prasad Regmi, an official at the District Education Office, claimed that the locals have not demanded for the school, thus they have shown no interest.

He added,'' We assist to establish schools only if the locals demand for it. But nobody has come to us stating so.''
