Bara to miss ODF deadline

Himalayan News Service

Bara, July 9

The open defecation free campaign launched in Bara has turned out ineffective.

Out of 16 local levels, only two municipalities and one rural municipality have been declared ODF zones till date.

According to Bara Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, Nijgadh Municipality, Kolhawi Municipality and Prasauni Rural Municipality have been declared ODF zones. Apart from three local levels, the other local units have failed to implement the ODF campaign, said division office Bara Chief Jakki Ahmad Ansari. As many as 13 local levels, including two sub-metropolitan cities, are yet to be declared ODF zones.

Kalaiya sub-metropolis and Jitpursimara Sub-metropolis too seem apathetic towards the ODF campaign.

A target was set for declaring Bara an ODF zone by mid-July.  Since most of the local levels have turned their backs on the campaign, the ODF campaign is sure to miss the deadline. Ansari said the district was bound to miss the ODF deadline.
