Barpak to be connected with Tibet via road network

GORKHA: The construction of the Gumda-Machakhola road, which could connect Barpark of Gorkha, the epicentre of devastating 2015 earthquake, with Tibet, is scheduled to begin soon.

The opening of track was delayed after a disagreement with the locals of Yamgaun and Lamsibot in Dharche Municipality regarding the route of the road.

Earlier, the locals were apprehensive about the mudslide that is likely to occur in the locality with the road construction.

An all-side meeting held on Friday comprising lawmaker Cham Bahadur Gurung, Chief District Officer Jitendra Basnet among others decided to proceed with the construction of the track that passes through Yamgaun.

According to the road project technician, Bal Krishna Gautam, the proposal to construct the road that passes through Lapsibot was rejected owing to weak topography.

The new track from Gumda to Machakhola will have a length of 13 kilometres and is estimated to be completed at the cost of Rs 9.4 million.
