Beltar fire victims left in the lurch

Udayapur, January 26

Four fire victim families of Beltar in Katari Municipality -8, Udayapur, are going through a tough phase of their life as they have failed to manage food and proper shelter for themselves.

The victims, whose houses were gutted in a fire on January 9, have been taking shelter under makeshift tents for more than two weeks. The houses of Udim, Tilmaya, Buddhi and Purna Bahadur Magar were reduced to ashes after their houses caught fire. “As all the belongings, including food grains and clothes, turned into ashes, we are facing a difficult time. Constructing house is beyond our imagination at a time when we are not able to make our ends meet,” said victim Purna Bahadur Magar.

“Elderly and children, who are taking shelter in makeshift tents for the past 15 days, are the worst hit. They are suffering from cold and fever due to the extreme cold at night,” shared another victim Tilmaya.

“Though fire victims were provided with tents, clothes and foodstuff by Katari Municipality, Red Cross and Udayapur Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the victims are much worried about constructing their houses. We have urged local traders and various organisations to help the victims construct their houses,” said Ward -8 chair Kamal Shrestha.
