Bhutan’s DNC hails US offer
New Delhi, October 28:
General secretary of the Druk National Congress (DNC) party in Bhutan, RK Dorjee, today said that the US proposal to take in 60,000 Bhutanese refugees was welcome.
Dorjee arrived here to attend a programme organised by South Asian Civil Initiatives to mark the centenary of the satyagraha launched by Mahatma Gandhi. “We welcome the US view on Bhutanese refugees,” he said. “We thank the Nepal government for its humanitarian support to us.”
“Though the Bhutanese king has said he will establish democracy in Bhutan by 2008, there is no truth behind his statement,” said Dorjee, adding, “If democracy is restored, it would be like what there is in Pakistan.”
