Bid to destroy marijuana plants

DHANGADI: Police in Kailali have launched a campaign to destroy marijuana plants in the wake of rise in the number of drug in Dhangadi Bazaar and surrounding areas.

Police said the campaign was launched following reports that youths and school students were indulged in marijuana consumption in town areas.

Dhangadi Municipality, educational institutions, social organisations and locals are assisting police in the campaign.

Manohar Prasad Bhatta, in-charge of ward police office, said as part the campaign, marijuana plants on the banks of Mohana River and Rajghat area of the district will be destroyed.

“We started the campaign on June 25 and it will continue until all marijuana plants in the area are destroyed,” he said.

Local youths, students and police personnel destroyed marijuana plants in LL chowk today. Marijuana plants were also destroyed in the surrounding areas of Siddhartha Sishu Sadan Higher Secondary School yesterday. Earlier, the plants were destroyed in Bishalnagar of Dhangadi. “We have been launching an awareness programme about the cause and effect of drugs in different schools of the city areas,” he informed.

Meanwhile, Prakash Bom district secretary of the Nepali Congress said that the campaign was a very good move and that his party was always ready to support the movement.
