Bikas Tiwari ends fast-unto-death on 18th day
KATHMANDU: Bikas Tiwari, who had been staging a fast-unto-death at the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj of Saptari, on Saturday ended his strike.
He drank a juice offered by Nil Kumari Mahato, a girl receiving treatment at the hospital, to end the hunger strike on eighteenth day.
Tiwari ended his strike after Minister for Health Gagan Thapa assured him of addressing his demands.
He also signed a four-point deal with the government seeking reforms in the Hospital.
According to the agreement, construction of the maternity ward in the Hospital would be resumed as soon as possible.
Similarly, appointment of paediatrician, cardiologist and other specialists would also to be done within a month.
The Health Ministry has assured its help in installing equipment required for dialysis, X-ray, surgery and other medical check-ups.
A special team would also be formed to monitor the developments in the Hospital.
