KC returns to panel
KATHMANDU: Birendra Bahadur KC, a member of the high-level committee formed to probe the Nirmala Panta murder case, has revisited his decision to quit the investigation panel.
KC had announced his decision to resign from the committee on Monday, stating the government’s decision to extend the panel’s tenure by 15 days had increased chances of destruction of evidence and eventual escape of the culprit. He had also stated that his ‘life was at risk’ due to ‘threats’ from unknown sources. But after meeting Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and investigation committee coordinator Hari Prasad Mainali on Wednesday he said he was ready to rejoin the committee.
“I was threatened by a heavily-built man, who came on a motorbike at the site where Nirmala’s body was found. He said he appreciated what I was doing, but I should recall how a person was recently killed after a truck ran over him due to brake-failure,” KC told journalists on Wednesday, adding, “I didn’t notice the registration number of his bike.”
