Bista vows to make FNJ more inclusive

Damauli, September 23

President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Mahendra Bista today said preparations to make the federation more inclusive as per the new federal structure were under way.

Inaugurating a two-day Civil Education Training for women journalists organised by Media Advocacy Group in Damauli of Tanahun today, Bista said the federation had launched an agitation demanding implementation of minimum salary for working journalists with the aim of making journalism a respectable profession.

Bista, however, expressed his concerns about the degrading quality of news despite rising number of newspapers in the country of late. He also underscored the role of media in bringing out the voice of the voiceless. He added that news reports should be based on reliability and research.

Media Advocacy Group Chairperson Babita Basnet said journalists need to maintain credibility while reporting stories.

As many as 25 women journalists working in Tanahun, Gorkha and Lamjung districts are participating in the training.
