Bodies of Jhapa intercaste couple found in single noose

JHAPA: A young couple belonging to different castes apparently committed suicide by hanging in a single noose in Kankai Municipality of Jhapa district in eastern Nepal on Friday.

The incident came to light after locals spotted hugging bodies of a man and a woman dangling from a tree.

The deceased have been identified as Asmita Tolami (23) and her boyfriend Ishwor Bhattarai (25).

The woman belonged to the Dalit community. It has been learned that her family had fixed her marriage with a man of her caste on coming February 6.

Police suspected that the duo probably decided to end their lives after their families did not accept their intercaste relationship.

The lovers had left their houses at around 5 am and hanged themselves to death on the tree, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Keshav Thebe of the Birtamod Area Police Office.
