Bomb explodes at NC election rally
ITAHARI: As many as four civilians have been seriously injured when a bomb went off targeting the election corner meeting organised by Nepali Congress at Bhaladmi Tole of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-9, Sunsari district this afternoon.
Those injured in the incident include one-year-old Yuban Neupane, 17-year-old Samrina Adhikari, her mother Nirmala, 37, and Nepali Congress local leader Dhana Bahadur Shrestha, a local Govinda Ghimire said.
The bomb blast took place when the NC Itahari-9 was conducting the door-to-door election campaign at the place, according to Ghimire. The injured have been taken to the Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar. They have sustained deep cuts caused by the shrapnel. The people assembled for the programme ran away after the bomb exploded with a loud bang.
The Area Police Office said it is not known who planted the bomb. Police have cordoned off the area now for investigation.
