Bomb hoax halts traffic along Chandrapur road section in Rautahat

GAUR: The vehicular movement along Chandrapur road section was halted after a suspicious package and a pressure cooker were found in the border area of Brindaban and Chandrapur Municipality in Rautahat district, in the wee hours today.

According to Rautahat District Police Office, the canal area was cordoned after locals who came across a pressure cooker and a plastic package kept on the levee of the canal near Harshaha informed police, at 4:30 am today. The packages found in the canal of Bagmati Irrigation Project were suspected to have contained improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Subsequently, Nepal Army's bomb disposal squad from Indra Baks Batallion reached the incident site to check the packages.

After finding that the package contained only non-explosives and documents, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupendra Khatri at the DPO said that the bomb hoax was perpetrated just to terrorise people. The security committee concluded that the bomb hoax was perpetrated to obstruct Chandrapur road section.

Less traffic movements along the East-West Highway has shown the partial effects of 'Bandh' called by Netra Bikram Chand-led group across the country today.
