BPKIHS docs continue agitation

DHARAN: Physicians at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, who have been agitating for the last three days, took to the streets today. They accused the government of not being serious about the security of the health workers.

More than 400 doctors, hundreds of other health staffers and medical students demonstrated in Dharan today. Medical services at the hospital, except emergency and inpatient services, were halted for the third consecutive day.

The agitation hit hundreds of patients who reached the hospital for health check up. The health workers resorted to the protest after relatives of a patient allegedly manhandled physicians Kumud Limbu and Mohammad Farif Amathullaha in the emergency ward last Monday.

Kin of patient Dilmaya Tamang had manhandled the doctors accusing them of not caring her. The health staffers said they would not return to work until the guarantee of their security.
