MoST brings to halt activities at IT Park

Kavre, May 10

The Ministry of Science and Technology recently put a kibosh on the operation of Banepa-based IT Park though the park had come into operation barely a month ago.

The park had remained unused for 11 years after it was established.

Just a week ago, MoST had written to its subordinate Information Technology Department located in the park to halt all activities there.

The department, on April 6, had struck an agreement with Kathmandu University and two other organisations to let them carry out their activities from the park.

Director General Birendra Kumar, of the Information Technology department, Bhola Thapa, registrar at Kathmandu University, along with representatives of Cloud Himalaya Private Limited and Softech Foundation had signed the agreement.

As per the agreement, Kathmandu University would occupy two commercial units of the park from where it would operate an incubation centre targeting new industries. The university had started work to this effect from the day after the agreement was signed.

Similarly, Softech and Cloud Himalayan had proposed to run activities related to software development and a data centre, respectively.

The activities at the park were expected to create employment opportunities for Information Technology aspirants and experts.
