KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 29

The government’s vision of ensuring high-speed broadband internet in all places across the country has been gaining momentum with 67 per cent of physical progress achieved as of mid-December.

Of the total 753 local bodies in the country, 512 have got internet access.

This is expected to enhance and improve delivery of public services and facilitate day-to-day work, according to Nepal Telecommunications Authority.

The NTA’s Rural Telecommunication Development Fund has been funding the internet expansion project in all rural places of the country. The project is being implemented in 18 packages.

NTA’s Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said internet was connected in 46 districts under 12 packages. Among the 5,933 ward offices in the country, 4,213 wards have got internet access while 3,505 secondary level community schools have benefited with the government’s Digital Nepal Framework -2019.

Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur, however, have not become beneficiary of this scheme, according to Spokesperson Aryal.
