Bus-hit kills secondary school student in Birgunj

PARSA: A student died on the spot after a school bus of Kadambari Academy hit her in Birgunj of Parsa district this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Diya Agrawal (14) daughter of Ram Agrawal of Mahabirsthan in Birgunj.

The spokesperson at the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Raj Joshi said that the school bus (Na 2 Kha 893) knocked Diya while she was crossing the road at Mahabirsthan Chok on her way to school today. Diya was a ninth grader at Delhi Public School, Birgunj.

Relatives of the deceased and locals have halted traffic along the road section demanding action against the driver and the school management, blaming that the school has put the life of students at risk allowing the person above 65 years and under influence of alcohol to drive the bus, said the DSP Joshi.

Adarsha Bazaar has now remained closed in protest of the incident. According to the DPO, an initiative was underway to release the bus driver, who has been made hostage inside the bus.

Joshi said that discussion was underway to resume the traffic.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been kept at Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital for postmortem.
