CA amends its business schedule

KATHMANDU: Twenty-sixth meeting of the Constituent Assembly today amended its work schedule after winter session of the parliament failed to complete its business by the second week of April.

According to the CA time frame, the winter session of the parliament was supposed to end tomorrow. But the session has been stalled, as the Nepali Congress and ruling CPN-UML obstructed the House proceedings on a number of issues. The winter session was convened on March 29 but it did not conduct its business even for a day.

A meeting of the CA Work Management Advisory Committee, in which members of all the political parties are represented, today decided to extend duration of the winter session till the second week of May.

The government has tabled 23 bills, including the three ordinances on inclusiveness, violence against women and implementation of the declaration of republic, in the winter session.

The CA meeting also made some changes in the 44-member advisory committee because the ruling Unified CPN-Maoist wanted a reshuffle in the panel.

CA chairman Subas Chandra Nembang announced that a CA seat was vacated following the death of Bodh Narayan Sardar, an NC CA member under the proportional representation system from Sunsari district. He died in a motorcycle accident on March 13 when he was on a CA mission collecting public opinion on content and forms of new constitution.
