CA resumes voting on articles of draft constitution, House in the evening

UPDATE: The Parliament meeting has been deferred to 7:15 pm in the evening.

The Constituent Assembly has resumed th voting of articles of draft constitution. It has endorsed up to Articles 74 of the Revised Bill of the new constitution

Only 25 support RPP-Nepal’s amendment proposal for monarchy, CA briefly deferred to hold House meeting

KATHMANDU: The Constituent Assembly meeting which resumed the voting process on draft constitution on Tuesday morning has been deferred till 11:30 am to hold the meeting of Legislature-Parliament.

The CA endorsed four more articles in the first sitting of the day. The Articles 58, 59, 60 and 61 were endorsed with a clear majority.

The Article 61 provisions the President as the ceremonial head of the state.

When put to vote, the CA rejected Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa's amendment proposal on the Article 61. He had sought the replacement of President with monarchy.

After rejection through voice vote, Thapa demanded a split voting. But only 25 lawmakers of his party stood in support of the demand.

The House meeting was called to table the Bill on Reconstruction.

The CA doubles as House also.
