CA poll date by Sunday, says UML chief Nepal

Charikot, June 22:

CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today said the date for the constituent

assembly (CA) election would be set by Sunday.

Addressing a press meet held by the Dolakha chapter of Press Chautari Nepal, Nepal said: “The Nepalis are keen on knowing the CA poll date. A new environment will be created in the country after the announcement of the date.”

He said he wanted the polls to be held within the month of Mangsir.

Nepal warned that any further delay in announcing the date would invite more problems in the country. “The UML is pressing for the announcement of the CA poll date at the earliest because reactionaries can hatch conspiracies in the event of delay,” Nepal said, adding: “The Nepali people are in favour of a democratic republic. People will sideline those who support ‘Baby King’ or ‘Ceremonial King’.”

The UML will not take it silently if local bodies are not formed according to the election of 2054 BS, he said. He added: “Maoist leaders have claimed that their party’s wing, the YCL, is being painted black. However, that is not true.”

Answering a query on his attendance in the marriage of Sita Ram Prasai’s son, Nepal said: “It is not essential to boycott the whole family for one corrupt person.”
