Cadres walk out as Deuba addresses meet

Rajbiraj, September 20:

President of the Nepali Congress (Democratic) Sher Bahadur Deuba today said that the unification of the NC and the NC (D) could not be done without a strong commitment, even as some party activists staged a walkout when Deuba was addressing the activists.

Addressing party activists in Rajbiraj, Deuba said, “We are in favour of unification of the two parties, but it should not be done in a light manner. The unification should be respectable.”

“We cannot forget the fact that we separated from the NC because our views were not heard,” Deuba said.

“We are aware that the situation of a split in the party may arise in future too if the two parties unite without strong commitment.”

Deuba also accused the Maoists of violating the 12-point agreement by continuing acts of murder, extortion and abduction.

NC-D central member Dr Minendra Rijal said the fate of monarchy should be decided through a referendum.

Meanwhile, some 28 party activists issued a joint statement protesting that central leaders of the party from the eastern region were not present during Deuba’s visit to different districts of the eastern region.
