Call to punish killers of NC activist Yadav
Siraha, November 5:
Nepali Congress vice-president Gopalman Shrestha today urged the government to probe into the murder of Nepali Congress mahasamiti member and former chairman of Majhaura VDC in Siraha district Bechan Yadav, pinpoint the killers and take action against them.
Shrestha, who arrived to attend Yadav’s funeral in Lahan, demanded that he be declared a martyr.
Deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Chitralekha Yadav expressed concern about increasing incidents of abduction and murder in Siraha district.
She urged the government to declare late Yadav a martyr and give adequate compensation to his family. She demanded that the killers be punished.
Nepali Congress Siraha president and a member of the interim parliament Sitadevi Yadav said Yadav’s murder was a mockery of law.
She said her repeated appeals in parliament to tighten the law and order situation in Siraha had fallen on deaf ears.
She said that the government was a mute spectator to the string of murders of political leaders and parties’ cadres in the district adding that Yadav’s murder was the latest in the series of murders committed by criminals patronised by political parties. Minister for Civil Administration Ram Chandra Yadav called for an end to politically-motivated murders and urged the government to take action in this regard.
Late Yadav’s body draped with NC flag was taken round Lahan bazaar and cremated near Balan River this afternoon. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Police have arrested four persons on the charge of being involved in Yadav’s murder.
Meanwhile, the district administration office lifted the indefinite curfew in Lahan from 7 pm today. The curfew was in place since yesterday after tensions grew over Yadav’s killing.
