Call to ratify Rome Statute

Kathmandu, July 18:

People from different walks of life have urged the government to ratify the Rome Statute of International Criminal Court (ICC) as soon as possible.

Rudra Kumar Nepal, under-secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), said the ministry had formed a taskforce to study and recommend suggestions to the ministry for the ratification of the treaty. “The taskforce is analysing pros and cons of the ratification,”Nepal added.

Nepal was addressing a public hearing organised by Citizens’ Task Force to Combat Impunity.

Yagya Adhikari, an NHRC official, said, “National Human Right Commission has included the agenda of ratification of the statute in its interim plan.”
