Campaign against social ills
KHANDBARI: Campaign against gambling and bootlegging has been launched in Chainpur in Sankhuwasabha district. In the wake of rising social problems caused by gambling and bootlegging, nine various local social organisations have together initiated distributing pamphlets and placards against pervasive production and sale of liquor and growing events of gambling. Through their awareness programmes, the social organisations have appealed all to halt those kinds of activities as they impede progress and prosperity of the society.
In the joint appeal released by the organisations, they have demanded gambling and production and illegal sale of liquor in the society be halted.
They have also said that they will take action against the gamblers and bootleggers.
For control and abolition of social maladies such as playing cards other kinds of gambling and excessive production and consumption of wine, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chainpur, Naari Ekata Sanjal, Samaj Sparsa Samiti, Red Cross Society in the district, Chainpur Samaj Sewa Club, Multipurpose Community Organisation and Janajaati Mahasangh have joined their hands in the campaign.
According to Aashish Shakya, chairman, Chainpur Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, they have commenced the campaign after a rise in the incidents of gambling and excessive consumption of liquor was noticed of late.
“Since many organisations in the area are making effort to curb such social maladies, they shall be brought under control shortly,” Shakya hoped.
The campaigners have asked media persons, police administration, civil society, political parties, rights activists and other stakeholders in the district to extend their help and cooperation in their noble campaign of wiping out social problems plaguing Chainpur area.
