Campaign against child marriage launched in Baitadi

BAITADI: A campaign against child marriage has been launched in Haat VDC of Baitadi.

According to Haat Health Post In-charge Binod Kumar Kunwar, a strategy under the campaign would be to 'put up a public notice and make public the names of three generations of those who practise child marriages'.

Despite being banned legally, child marriages are still being practiced in many rural places of Nepal.

Kunwar said the early marriage brings problems in women's life and deprives them of educational opportunities.

If the campaign is successful, the Haat VDC would be declared as a model VDC in the district.

The Child Network, the Girls' Rank Group and the Child Marriage Alleviation Committee would conduct door-to-door programmes, interactions and social boycott of those involved in child marriage as part of the campaign, Kunwar added.
