Casualty figures staggering

Nepalgunj, August 9:

Four thousand four hundred and forty-seven people were killed in the mid-western region during the insurgency in the nation.

According to a report issued by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) on Tuesday, 3,360 people were killed by the state while 1487 were killed by Maoists during this period of armed conflict.

The report said that 902 people (733 by the state and 169 by the Maoists) were killed in Rukum district of the region. Some 749 (508 by the state and 241 by the Maoists), 685 (421 by the state and 26(INSEC) 4 by the Maoists), 350 (211 by the state and 139 by Maoists) and 337 (255 by state and 82 by Maoists) were killed in this period in Rolpa, Dang, Banke and Bardiya districts, respectively.

According to the INSEC report, 330 (211 by the state and 119 by Maoists), 310, 298 and 249 people were killed in Kalikot, Surkhet, Salyan and Jumla districts respectively. Also, 239, 207, 61, 53, 48 and 29 people were killed in Dailekh, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Pyuthan, Mugu and Humla district, respectively.
