Chameliya Project remains halted despite House directive

BAITADI: The construction works of the Chameliya Hydropower Project have not resumed even after two weeks of a parliamentary committee's directive.

The construction of the project based in Shikha VDC of Darchula district has stalled since last May. The Public Accounts Committee had issued an instruction on December 27 for resumption of the works of the under-construction project.

The Chinese Gejuwa Group of Power Company had asked for payment of the amount added up as per an agreement following which the House committee halted the construction work citing the amount in question was high.

The Project with a capacity to generate 30 megawatt electricity continues to remain shut despite the parliamentary directive, Company's Site In-Charge Pushpa Raj Joshi said.

"We do not have official information to start work," he said.

The government has repeatedly extended the deadline for completion of the project from 2011 to 2013 and then from 2014 to 2016.
