Chand-led CPN Maoist asks donation from govt offices in Khotang

KHOTANG: The CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand (Biplap) has asked donations from different government offices in Khotang district.

The party has asked the donation citingĀ  it is going to launch a new campaign to institutionalise the achievements gained from the decade-long Maoist insurgency and 19-day people's movement.

Office chiefs said that although the letter signed by the party General Secretary Chand did not mention the amount, the party cadres started bargaining about the funds on the phone time and again.

They said, "The party cadres made telephone calls frequently soon after sending the letters demanding the donation. There is no provision of providing donation from the offices. It has created problems for us."

Chief District Officer, Govinda Sapkota has directed the office chiefs not to give donation to those asking funds from government offices.

CPN Maoist Khotang Secretary Chandra Bahadur Budhathoki said that they demanded donation from the district-based some government offices and the VDC secretaries as the party has to launch agitation to establish nationality and the issues of livelihood.

Budhathoki said, "We have not forced anybody. We have urged some government offices and VDC secretaries to provide some financial support as per their wish."
