Chand-led CPN Maoist forms parallel govt

Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist has formed people’s government like that of the conflict era in Lamjung and Bajhang districts.
The Chand-led Maoists formed people’s government in Lamjung yesterday and in Bajhang today reminding people of the decade-long insurgency. Lamjung District Secretary Abiral Neupane said his party had formed District People’s Council and District People’s Representative Assembly.
Neupane said the nine-member District People’s Council is led by Bil Bahadur Gurung and 19-member District People’s Representative Assembly is led by Narayan Kunwar were formed.
Secretary Neupane said the names of other members were kept secret to carry out “underground activities”. Neupane said the newly-formed organisations would work in favour of the people and fight against the government’s wrongdoings.
He said his party would also take action against brokers, hooliganism and corruption. Maoist district member Sujan Adhikary said the people’s council and assembly were formed in the presence of CPN Maoist central member and Gandaki deputy bureau chief Sabitri Dura and chief of Tamuwan Autonomous Province Kisan Singh Gurung.
CPN Maoist politburo member and Seti Mahakali in-charge Om Prakash Pun announced formation of the people’s government at a function organised in Bajhang headquarters Chainpur.
A 17-member people’s council formed under the leadership of Chandra Bahadur Singh has warned of running a parallel government if the parties did not correct themselves.
