‘Changes in constitution must be justified’

Gaighat, September 18

CPN-UML Vice-chairperson Bam Dev Gautam today said that the constitution would not be amended without special cause at any cost.

Speaking to journalists at a press meet organised by Press Chautari in Gaighat of Udaypur today, Gautam clarified that his party would not support the idea of constitution amendment until the forces were clear about which articles needed to be amended and why.

“As all the feasible demands of the agitating Madhesi-forces have already been addressed, there is no point in amending the statute,” argued Gautam.

Gautam said that the Madhesi forces were giving trouble to people in the name of agitation time and again. “Those forces are trying to push the country back by foiling constitution implementation for the sake of agitation even after their concerns were addressed,” he said.

Gautam also said the Nepali Congress had betrayed the CPN-UML not abiding by their past agreement.
