Rajbiraj, November 6:

Chhath, a major festival celebrated in the Mithilanchal region, will begin tomorrow evening with women offering holy water to the setting sun and taking a dip in the nearest river and offering holy water to the rising sun the following day.

Devotees, mostly women who fast during Chhath, prepare themselves for the worship four days in advance by observing Aruwain. That includes taking holy bath daily, avoiding garlic, onions, fish and meat.

Worshipping the sun by offering fruits is the main function during Chhath, professor Harikant Lal Das said.
