Chhath festival to begin today

Janakpurdham, November 4:

The main rituals related to Chhath, the great festival of the Mithilanchal region, commence from tomorrow, the fourth day of the waxing moon in the month of Kartik according to the Lunar Calendar.

Inspiring the humanity to adopt truth and non-violence and love and compassion to all the beings in the world is the main tenet associated with this festival.

The festival of Chhath is one such religious festival that incorporates the beautiful system of tradition of worshipping the Sun God. Both the rising and setting sun are worshipped during this festival.

Preparations for the festival began about a month ago in the Mithila region. Chhath festival is celebrated for four days. The first day of the festival is called Araba-Arbain or Nahan Khan. People observing the Chhath fast do not take fish and meat, onion, millet and lentils.

Besides its religious significance, this festival also has scientific and astrological significance.

The observation of this festival brings family well being, relieves people of skin diseases and helps in acquiring sons, it is believed.
