Chief Minister promises rehabilitation of conflict-affected people

SURKHET: Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has promised rehabilitation and other livelihood measures for the conflict-affected people of the province.

At a province-level public hearing programme organised by Women Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) Nepal in Surkhet on Thursday, Chief Minister Shahi said that conflict survivors sustaining their lives by being dependent on others would be rehabilitated in Surkhet itself. The province government’s attention has been drawn in this regard, he added.

“The conflict-hit people, even at present, are affected from incidents of the past. All their problems cannot not be addressed at once but the state must seek some measures to resolve their concerns,” Chief Minister Shahi added.

On the occasion, he assured to establish a rehabilitation centre for the conflict-affected people, provide jobs to them based on their capacity, collect their data and provide psycho-social counselling for improved livelihood.

Also present on the occasion were Social Development Minister for the province, Dala Rawal; Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Bimala KC; Director of National Human Rights Commission Murari Kharel; Vice-Chairman of Karnali Province Planning Commission Punya Regmi; and Chairperson of WOREC Nepal Renu Adhikari, among others.
