Child welfare only active in the capital
KATHMANDU: Only one fourth of the 775 organisations established for the welfare and development of children, are actively working and carrying out their regular activities.
According to the Society Welfare Council (SWC), there are 773 organisations registered for the welfare and development of children in the country. “Among them only 125 are functioning,” said Ram Sharma, Assistant Director of Society Welfare Council. He said that financial problem was the main concern for such organisations. The organisations were registered relying on donors to provide the needed funds for field works and other activities, said Dinesh Das Shrestha, founder president of a child home based in Chuchhepati, adding, “Later they have to close down due to lack of funds.”
Most of the organisations established for the welfare of children currently in operation are based in Kathmandu Valley.
