Child’s death sparks protest
POKHARA: Relatives of deceased Surakshya Gurung,12, staged a sit in in-front of the Regional Hospital in Pokhara on Friday, protesting that she died due to the negligence of the health personnel. Gurung, a permanent resident of Pokhara-12, Dhikalethar, was admitted in the hospital after she complained of headache.
She died in the hospital, yesterday. Superintendent of the hospital Lumeswor Acharya claimed she died of Meningitis and not due to the negligence of the doctors. Suraksha's father Serman Gurung rejected Acharya's claim and said the staffers delayed her treatment. He said that Surakshya was admitted in the hospital at 12.20 but the doctors came only at 3.30 pm to see her. Meanwhile, representatives of civil society, hospital management committee, victims and the local leaders of political parties tried to resolve the dispute.
