Children distraught as their mother dies from snakebite in Kailali
DHANGADHI: The sudden death of a woman from snakebite has put her five children in a vulnerable state, in Ghodaghodi Municipality-1 of Kailali district.
32-year-old Ranipura Neupane of Ghodaghodi died after a snake bit her while she was taking chillies kept at a corner in her kitchen room, on Thursday morning.
Since there was no adult at the site to take care of the snakebite victim, Neupane herself, immediately rushed to a health facility at Sukhad Bazaar from where she was referred to Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadhi in the district. However, she was sent to the Snakebite Treatment Centre based in Badaipur of Gauriganga Municipality. It has been reported that the snakebite victim died at the centre as she had reached the last stage.
The Neupane family had been living on one kaththa (338.63 sq. m) cultivable barren land, not yet registered in personal name by the government. The husband of the victim, Shankar Neupane, had left for India four days ago in foreign employment, a neighbour Dhana Laxmi Shahi said.
The snakebite victim is survived by four daughters — aged 10, 8, 5 and 4 years — and a seven-month-old son.
Meanwhile, the neighbours are looking after the children after their mother's sudden demise.
