China not miffed at Deuba's India visit, says foreign minister

Kathmandu, November 8

Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat today clarified that the Chinese government had no objection to the recent visit of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to Goa, India.

A section of media today wrote that Chinese government took serious exception to Deuba's visit to Goa, where he attended a programme, which was also attended by exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama.

Mahat claimed Deuba, a former prime minister, didn’t share dais with the representative of Dalai Lama, didn’t meet him and was even not aware of his presence there.

In a press meeting at his office, the foreign minister also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today called Chinese embassy officials in Kathmandu and sought to know if they had any particular concern about Deuba's visit. "The Chinese side has also said they had no concern regarding the matter," Mahat added.
