BIRGUNJ: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority CIA(A) raided the office of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City and seized its documents on Wednesday.

Some BSMC officials had abruptly stayed on leave after they were tipped off about the CIAA's potential raid.

Earlier, a team deployed from the the CIAA's Hetaunda-based regional office had inspected the road construction projects carried out by the BSMC in a hurry at the end of the fiscal year. All documents related to the black-topping of roads in the border city have been taken under control.

The CIAA had swung into action after local newspapers published news reports about irregularities in the development projects and degeneration of black-topped roads before the completion of road construction project.

Suspecting irregularities, the CIAA has also kept bank accounts of the BSMC officials under scrutiny.
