Locals today vandalised Panauti Municipality to protest against the halt in the supply of drinking water during the city-level karate contest.

The 100-strong mob sporting the banner of Panauti Improvement Committee not only vandalised the furniture, doors and windows of the municipality executive’s office, it also tried to manhandle the municipality staffers.

“The group vandalised the office after a discussion among the municipality staffers, Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) and representatives of the city to resume water supply failed,” municipality executive officer Ram Krishna Upreti said. It may have been engineered by those who are disputing over the issue of shifting the municipality office, a source said.
