CJ ‘admits’ to failure in meeting people’s wishes

Kathmandu, September 7:

Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel today admitted that he failed to meet public expectation during his tenure.

“I did several good things, but failed to meet public expectation because the situation was unfavourable,” a Supreme Court justice quoted Paudel as saying. Paudel addressed a closed-door farewell programme organised by SC justices and senior staffers where journalists were prevented to attend.

However, the judges failed to discuss the delay in appointing a new CJ. According to him, Article 103 (4) of the Interim Constitution has given the power to the senior-most justice to be the officiating chief of the judiciary. “It would be disastrous if the CJ appointment issue assumes political colour,” he said.
