CK Raut ‘violates deal with govt’

Janakpurdham, March 10

Even before three days had passed since Free Madhes Alliance Coordinator CK Raut signed a 11-point agreement with the government, Raut violated the accord here today.

Hundreds of people and his supporters reached the airport to welcome Raut. Most of them carried flags that read ‘Free Madhes’. They shouted slogans supporting Free

Madhes.

At a programme in Kathmandu after signing the 11-point agreement last Friday, Raut himself had said that he had joined mainstream politics by renouncing his demand of disintegrating the Tarai/Madhes.

Point No 6 of the 11-point accord states that the alliance will not produce and distribute publicity materials that go against the agreement and constitutional provision of a unified and intact Nepal.

While Raut’s supporters were shouting ‘Free Madhes’ slogans, Nepal Police and Nepali Army personnel  stayed mum.

Earlier, Raut was rumoured to have built his own army. His personal swaraji army provided security to Raut today. Eight of his army men were at the airport before his arrival. Security personnel were taken aback by Raut’s army men. They, however, did nothing.

Upon Raut’s arrival, Raut’s army men took journalists away from the VIP section. They were barred from reporting the news. Free Madhes Alliance’s army men had taken the VIP and outside area under control for some time. His army men had donned jackets that appeared to be bulletproof, they wore black glasses, and had covered their mouths with black cloth. They escorted Raut to the vehicle. Riding an Indian-number plated Scorpio, Raut took a round of various parts of Janakpur. Hundreds of his supporters followed him shouting slogans. Raut declined to speak on the agreement reached with the government.

Raut’s cadres had shouted slogans of Free Madhes in front of Dhanusha DAO and office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers as well.
