Clamour seeking implementation of free visa, free ticket policy

Rajbiraj, September 8

Migrant Workers’ Rights Protection Centre of Saptari today sent a memorandum to the prime minister and the minister for labour and employment, drawing their attention to the need to implement the provision of ‘free visa and free ticket’.

Scores of people led by the centre’s Chairman Jayabinda Singh held a demonstration in Rajbiraj before rallying to the district administration office, where they handed the document over to Chief District Officer Baldev Gautam.

The 28-point memorandum has also sought additional policy-related provisions for implementation of the free visa, free ticket policy and participatory monitoring from time to time.

“At a time when remittance accounts for over one-fourth of the country’s total domestic product, it is unfortunate that the government has failed to make sure that this sector (foreign employment) is well-managed and respected,” said Singh.

On his part, CDO Gautam, while receiving the memorandum, pledged to take necessary initiatives to get the demands addressed.
