Cold wave hits

MAHOTTARI: Prisoners at Jaleshwor Jail in Mahottari district have been directly affected due to the thick fog and cold wave.

They have been compelled to spend days and nights freezing in the cold as the jail administration has not been providing firewood to them.

Jailer Shovendra Thakur said they cannot bring firewood from the jungle due to the continuous shutdown called by United Democratic Madhesi Front.

Thakur said they have been bringing firewood under police escort only for cooking food.

The jail now needs 120 quintal firewood per month to cook food. A total of 389 prisoners have been kept at the jail despite its accommodation capacity of 135 people.
