Cold wave, westerly wind cripple life in mid-Tarai region
RAUTAHAT: Heavy snowfall in mountainous regions and the effect of westerly wind have resulted in plummeting temperature in the districts in mid-Terai region including Rautahat since Friday.
The locals, mostly elderly and people from the dalit settlement, have been going through a hard time dealing with the on-going cold wave and excessive cold weather.
The temperature has plummeted in the Terai districts including Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha among others. The temperature had dropped to a low of 11°C on Sunday morning.
The locals have been forced to stay inside their houses after the cold wave hit the region, said Sambhu Singh, a local of Rajdevi Municipality in Rautahat.
Locals are trying to keep themselves warm by gathering around the fire.
Meanwhile, the Chief District Administrator, Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari, has given assurance to provide firewood to the residents after holding a meeting with the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee.
