Colombian Foreign Minister Cuellar wishes to visit Nepal

NEW YORK: Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar has expressed her interest to make a visit to Nepal.

Minister Cuellar articulated her intent in a meeting on Thursday with Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat held on the sidelines of the ongoing 71st Session of UN General Assembly in New York.

The Columbian Minister showed interest on the Nepal's peace process and inquired how it was concluded, Minister Mahat told RSS following the meeting.

Mahat said, "The Colombian Foreign Minister has pledged to make a visit to Nepal to take stock of the peace process here."

Minister Cuellar was of the belief that Nepal's experience in successful conclusion of peace process would be useful to Colombia too, said Minister Mahat.

He added, "As the international community shared their concerns about Nepal's peace process, we realised that Nepal had done an exemplary work by concluding it in a meaningful manner."

Earlier in a meeting held between the two on the sidelines of the High-Level Plenary Meeting on Monday, Minister Mahat had congratulated his Colombian counterpart and through her to the people of Government of Columbia on initiating peace process by putting an end to a half century old conflict in the country.

Minister Dr Mahat, presently in New York, is leading the Nepali delegation to the UNGA. He is scheduled to address the UNGA on 24 September.
