CIAA begins probe on alleged involvement of Nepalis in Panama Papers

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigating into the alleged connection of some Nepalis in the Panama Papers.

The CIAA expressed its concerns over the Panama Papers alleging wealthy individuals and public officials of hiding property from public with the help of offshore companies established by a Panamanian law firm.

Talking to RSS, CIAA Spokesperson Krishnahari Pushkar said the CIAA decided to investigate into the matter in cooperation with the government agencies and diplomatic missions abroad as names of some Nepalis were found connected to it.

Though over a dozen Nepali have been allegedly linked with the Panama Papers, their identities and economic status are yet to be known. The CIAA too has guessed that Nepal may have the connection with such mega corruption scandal.
